Motorola MOTO Z9

Motorola MOTO Z9 Review:
MOTO Z9 is 3G capable, with a GPS, 2-megapixel camera and Linux-Java OS, which is used in the U9, V8, and E8. The MOTO Z9 comes with an in-car GPS which is called by AT&T as the AT&T Navigator. There is also a video share feature provided by the company to stream videos to your friends on the go. A Windows media player 11 does slow things down a bit, but a third party software should do you no harm at all! MOTO Z9 is a high end feature phone with a mid-tier price of $149 after rebates on AT&T’s network. It has a compelling one-two punch of stunning good looks and serious features including 3G, GPS, music player, a 2 megapixel camera, Video Share, Cingular Video, stereo Bluetooth and a metal casing. Not bad for a mid-sized slider phone. The MOTO Z9 comes in Mahogany, which we’d describe as a metallic warm plum color that’s fairly gender neutral and attractive. Though the front face is shiny and attracts fingerprints as shiny phones always do, the Moto manages to stay presentable looking between swipes across a shirt tail. The Moto Z9 completes with the LG Shine on AT&T, another elegant and well-featured slider that’s just a tad smaller and lighter than the MOTO Z9 but lacks the GPS and Video Share features. It actually competes with Motorola’s own RAZR2 V9 on AT&T as well, and the phones are similar enough that the choice boils down to flip vs. slider and the MOTO Z9’s GPS. The MOTO Z9 feels hefty at 4.9 ounces and is a bit larger than the original RAZR, but the upside is that it feels extremely sturdy and well made. If you’re in the market for a Zoolander phone look elsewhere, but if you’re a man with large hands, the Moto will likely feel just right.

The Motorola MOTO Z9 features Motorola’s CrystalTalk technology which reduces background noise and improves outgoing voice quality. Whatever that special sauce is, the Moto Z9, like the Moto Q9 Global on AT&T, very, very good. Incoming voice is clear and distinct with above average volume and outgoing voice is landline clear with good volume. If you find most GSM phones too quiet to hear, the Motorola MOTO Z9 should be on your short list since it’s one of the louder phones currently on the market.

The Motorola MOTO Z9 has a speakerphone that’s loud and clear and Voice Signal’s voice command software that offers accurate speaker independent voice dialing and commands. Voice command worked well with the Moto itself and and over Bluetooth headsets including stereo A2DP headsets like the Motorola S9. The Motorola MOTO Z9 has speed dial, caller photo ID, and you can assign ringtones to individual contacts in the phone’s address book. The Moto Z9 supports AT&T’s Video Share feature which allows you to do one-way video calls with other AT&T subscribers using Video Share-enabled AT&T phones.

Motorola MOTO Z9 Phone Features
The MOTO Z9 has a large, brightly colorful 2.4-inch screen with a 240 x 320-pixel resolution and a depth of 262K colors. With the redesigned, more intelligent interface, you’ll be able to search for contacts faster and avoid duplicate entries for the same person while allowing contacts to have multiple numbers. The customizable main menu means you’re never more than 2 to 3 clicks away from your favorite applications. And text messaging is easier, with the MOTO Z9 recognizing what type of message you are sending.

The innovative CrystalTalk technology automatically accounts for background noise during a call and adjusts the audio quality based on ambient noise conditions to provide the optimal conversational experience. CrystalTalk also reduces the volume of the background noise picked up by the microphone during a call, making it possible to be more easily heard over the phone while in a noisy environment.

The 2-megapixel camera includes an 8x digital zoom and it can automatically snap up to eight new pictures–letting you choose the best image from a complete series of pictures. You can even print photos wirelessly to a Bluetooth-compatible printer with just a few menu selections. Motorola MOTO Z9 also features a self-timer, free memory space indicator, color effects, night mode for low-light shots, and five shutter sounds (with a silent mode).

The MOTO Z9 is also an impressive video camcorder, providing up to QCIF resolution (176 x 144 pixels). It also gives you the option of choosing the video format, which offers different frame rates–25 fps for MPEG and H263 and 15 fps for WMV and Real. You can record video for as long as you have available space on your MicroSD/MicroSDHC memory card (which offers compatibility with cards up to 8 GB).

Motorola MOTO Z9 phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity, and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and photo printing. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking–surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server.

In addition to voice calls, text messaging, and MMS capability, the phone is also compatible with mobile email (POP/IMAP/SMTP) as well as instant messaging (IM) from AIM, Windows Live, and Yahoo!. The embedded iTap predictive text entry technology makes it easier for entering text on handsets–a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. Other features include:

  • 45 MB internal memory
  • Support for caller groups, multiple numbers per contact, photo ID, and ringer ID
  • Polyphonic and MP3 ringtones with vibrate silent mode
  • Music format support: MP3, AAC, and WMA (as well as protected WMA-DRM)
  • PIM functions including calendar, calculator, alarm clock, and world clock
  • USB 2.0 wired connectivity, with mass storage capability
  • Bluetooth profiles: A2DP (stereo music streaming), AVRC (remote control), HFP (hands-free car kits), HSP (communication headsets), BIP (for sending images to another device), BPP (basic printing profile for text, email), DUN (dial-up networking), FTP (file transfer), OPP (object push for business cards, calendar items, and pictures)

Motorola MOTO Z9 User Review:

I was vacillating myself between the Motorola MOTO Z9 and a black Shine. I almost changed my order to the Shine because I could not fathom waiting 2-8 weeks for this phone. I waited 1 1/2 weeks and it was getting unbearable (I lack the patience gene). So I have been playing with her Shine. Or should I say…cussing the hell out of this Shine. I can’t transfer anything to the memory card! The Motorola MOTO Z9 phone is fairly solid but not quite solid enough. It has beautiful graphics, but the exterior gets dirty easily. So considering what I’ve spent so far, it’s a bust. It’s nice enough but not awesome.

So I get my Motorola MOTO Z9 today. Menus seem clear and simple enough. I’m coming off 5 previous Nokias over the past 10 years, my last Nokia was a 6102i and let me say if they had put an SD card slot on it it would have been perfection for me. I really do love my Nokia and I like simple, easy to use phones with a hint of fun. But it’s obsolete with its 4MB memory (I wish I was joking). The screen is beautiful. I put in my 4 GB microSD card…not nar a problem, it has easily been recognized by my computer and is ready to go (it’s downloading as we speak!) The exterior is nice, the color really is not as bright red as you see in these pictures, it’s very rich looking. I’m not having any problems with the keyboard (the Shine bugs me more with the lip at the bottom). I think this is a wonderful upgrade, really nice introduction to Motorola for me, the RAZRs just didn’t catch my eye but this phone has a very classy look to it.

I put my little case on it to keep it clean and it snapped right on. I put my SIM card in and it’s been nothing but go! I’m foreseeing good things with this phone, I even signed up for a Media Net bundle. I think I made a good choice.

I took a star away because it is rocking a bit on the hinges and that made me uneasy. Still not as unsturdy as the SHINE. Also it has a tendency to want to get really, really dirty already.
