Samsung LN-T4061F Review

Samsung LN-T4061F LCD is a good choice for people looking to step up to full 1080p resolution in a 40-inch flat-panel LCD. Besides offering full 1080p resolution the Samsung LN-T4061F also features a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio for rich blacks and subltle texture display, an 8ms response time panel for smooth motion, hidden side speakers, an NTSC tuner, and 3 HDMI ports.
The primary differences between Samsung LN-T4061F LCD and the LNT4065F LCD HDTV is in the contrast ratio and video processing power. The pricier LNT4065F offers a 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio compared to this model’s 10,000:1 ratio, and also offers full 10bit video processing over this model’s 8 bit system. The more expensive model should display finer gradients of shading making for more detail in darker scenes. The video processing difference should ensure smoother motion in fast moving scenes for the LNT4065F.

The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.

My Samsung 4061F arrived about a week ago, and I am still in shock about the deal I got for this LCD. Amazon had by far the lowest price on the Samsung LN-T4061F (roughly $600 less than Best Buy.) I was monitoring price fluctuations for this LCD and a few others like it for about 5 months until Christmas when I bought the Samsung, and I found that Amazon has the best deals @ Xmas and the few days that follow. The Samsung LN-T4061F has an impeccable picture with 720p and 1080i/p resolutions. As mentioned in other reviews, the factory picture settings are skewed in many different categories; however, all of these settings are completely adjustable. To extend the life of the TV and to increase picture quality overall, I keep every picture setting on 50, except for contrast at 55 and backlight at 5,6,or 7. For Blu-ray movie’s I turn up the contrast to 75 to show a more full range of color.

I use the Samsung LN-T4061F almost exclusively for PS3/Blu-ray movies, and an occasional HD program (e.g. football game.) The picture for standard DVDs and PS2 games look great using the PS3’s upscaler. The picture for standard TV programs (480i) is good, definitely one of the best for LCDs in the Samsung LN-T4061F’s class.

The one tiny problem is that I notice a tad bit of motion blur at times. This is most likely a setting that is changeable, and could be caused by the DNIe, which can be disabled. I have yet to mess with motion blur related settings because the picture is impeccable, regardless.
