Sidekick ID

Sidekick ID Review:

The Sidekick iD lets you customize the exterior of the device to match your ever-changing style. Sidekick ID’s exchangeable rubber sides and backing can be replaced with a variety of different colored pieces. And just like its other Sidekick family members, with the Sidekick iD in hand you’re continuously connected to email, instant messaging, and text messaging at the touch of a button. Other great features include a trackball for easy navigation, a large screen that swivels to reveal a QWERTY keyboard, a speakerphone for handsfree chatting, T-Mobile myFaves compatibility, and a full Web browser.

Sidekick ID Design Features

  • Integrated, true instant messaging via AIM, Yahoo! Instant Messenger, or Windows Live Messenger
  • Real HTML Web browsing
  • Speakerphone for handsfree calling; polyphonic ringtones and vibrating alert
  • Vibrant, full-color swivel screen
  • QWERTY keyboard with dial pad

Sidekick ID - For Pleasure
The Sidekick iD covers all your messaging needs with support for text messaging and instant messaging. If you want email on the go, the Sidekick iD has you covered there, too. With a Sidekick Unlimited data plan, you get your own 6 MB email account from T-Mobile, and you can also set up as many as three other personal email accounts to deliver email directly to the Sidekick iD’s email application. Web browsing is also easy. View full Web pages with the device’s embedded browser and surf T-Mobile’s t-zones service, which offers news headlines, weather updates, game and ringtone downloads, and more. When it’s time to get your game on, the Sidekick iD is able to run exciting Java based games and applications. The Sidekick iD is also cleverly integrated with MySpace. T-Mobile Sidekick devices are the only handheld wireless devices that allow you to directly reply to messages from your MySpace friends and post to blogs on MySpace.

Sidekick ID - For Work/Productivity/Business
Although not a strictly business oriented phone, the Sidekick iD brings many useful business applications to the table. In addition to having text messaging, instant messaging, and email access close at hand, The Sidekick iD ships with a number of handy tools, including a calendar, an alarm that can be set to notify you of calendar events, a to-do list, and conference calling capabilities. These tools can be synchronized with Microsoft Outlook via the Sidekick iD’s USB data connection or wirelessly via the Sidekick iD’s Intellisync technology. Intellisync is a unique Web-based application that runs on any PC with a Web browser. It allows you to view and update your calendar and contacts information and then upload them to your Sidekick iD wirelessly. All of your data is stored remotely (except for downloaded applications), so if your Sidekick iD is ever lost or stolen your data is safe and accessible.

Sidekick ID Special Features
Sidekick ID phone is fully compatible with T-Mobile’s myFaves service, which allows you to call up to five of your most common contacts–on any network, even landlines–without using any of your minutes. In order to take advantage of all the Sidekick iD has to offer, a Sidekick data plan is required in addition to a regular voice plan.

Sidekick ID Vital Statistics

My son selected Sidekick ID phone for use as I switched him from another service to my T-mobile plan. His current phone is the Nokia 5200/5300 series music phone. He was not deterred because it does not have a camera, bluetooth, or mp3 player. He has all of these individual devices plus the Nokia has a camera, mp3 player & bluetooth. It only takes a switch of the sim card if he choose to change up between the two phones. I played around with it before releasing it to him. I like the look and feel of the device, may be a bit fragile for a heavy handed kid though. The screen is nice enough, clear. Call quality I have yet to test but I’ll amend my review when I do. He mostly likes the text & instant message features and will probably do some web browsing. I purchased the Sidekick ID unlimited service in order to head off costly per use of the messaging he likes so well. He can access his myspace page which is also a plus to him. Overall, I think the Sidekick ID will serve its purpose for a teen-ager who craves a full keyboard, prefers texting & instant messaging, is not a heavy voice user. It’s attractive for a boy, coming with the grey colored bumper. This can be outfitted with other colored bumpers purchased separately. I’m happy with the purchase and he really likes Sidekick ID. Would highly recommend it.
